Carnival time in Basel

This week was the Carnival week in Basel. Here its one of the most traditional carnivals in the world and has a spooky feeling to it, its more about ghosts and stuff.
The carnival begins at 4 am in morning on monday when the street lights are switched off and people with lanterns travel through the old part of the city. ooooooooo






Then in afternoon the processions begin where u find people in wierd masks and costumes parading down the streets.
The next day in the evening all the lanterns are put up for display at the old church in the city and at 8 pm in the evening, begins a very entertaining part of it, local bands again all spookily dressed up carry out musical processions. It was funny seeing a ghost balancing his entire band on 2 small wheels and parading down the street.


On the third day again there is a big procession late in the afternoon, Its really amazing to note the enthusiasm these people have to join in with bad weather early in the morning and carrying out procession inspite fo snow. During these 3 days the entire city rocks. In the procession generally people make fun of local politicians and/or local events.
