Swiss national Day 1st august

Basel celebrates the Swiss National Day, August 1, along the Rhine river. The city starts its festivities the day before on 31st July with water sporting events, food stands, games and activities. Many stay until after sunset to ooh and ahh at the always spectacular fireworks show. The higlight of the events apart from the fireworks was a motorcycle rider who rode his bicycle on a tightrope across the Rhine, not once but 5 times once with a small kid sitting iwth him, then very fast and then standing on bike and finally with only one wheel touching the rope. Next at night came the wonderful fireworks, had never seen something so beautiful esp in warm summer sky just before my birthday ws amazing!
